The rugged high-wing de Havilland (Canada) DHC-2 Beaver was designed in 1946 and became the the ultimate STOL bush aeroplane design of its day. The design criteria were influenced bt the Canadian government agencies, but ultimately the US military purchased 980 of the 1,600 plus built and designated it the U-6. The Beaver's rugged construction has served businesses and communities well in the frontier areas of Canada and Alaska.
