The Martin B-26 Marauder was one of the most controversial Allied medium bombers in the early stages of its career. The first B-26 flew on November 25, 1940. Because of the configuration of this aircraft, it resulted in an exceptionally high accident rate, created in the main by inexperienced pilots handling a fast, unfamiliar and unusally heavy aeroplane, with its dangerously high wing loading and rather vicious single-engine flying characteristics. It saw major action in the Pacific and had its debut in the European Theatre in March, 1943.
